“Floral Design Day began in 1995 as a way to celebrate the birthday of Carl Rittner, the founder of the Rittner School of Floral Design in Boston.Floral design history takes us all the way back to Ancient Egypt, where designs included order, simplicity and repetition of a particular pattern, with specific flowers having special meanings, such as the lotus blossom which was considered sacred. In Greek and Roman times, real flowers were used to decorate clothing through bouquets, wreaths, garlands and brooches which would add a scented flourish for any occasion. – CULTURE ON CALL”

Floral dresses are as beautiful as paintings :
Believed to be originated in the East, the floral print travelled to the West with traders that brought exquisite silk dresses with floral embroideries. The pattern was also paired with other elements of nature like leaves, birds, and animals. From prints to embroideries to jewellery, with a wide range of diversity, flowers come as naturally as breathing. Every period in history has had one floral motif as a highlight. While it began with peonies during the Tang dynasty period of 618-907 AD in China, floral laces took over only in the 16th century.

As the floral print came over to Europe, the 16th and 17th century saw the uprise of tulips, pomegranates and Indian Chintz, which further were replaced by the lovely carnations in the 18th century. However, today’s fashion has been able to incorporate technology with art. Various techniques like embroideries, 3-D embellishments, sequins and other uncommon materials create exquisite floral interpretations.

As with colours, cultures worldwide have used flowers to symbolise their feelings, emotions and beliefs. Talking about the symbolic significance of the motif, fashion designer Kshitij Jalori said, “I believe florals were used on clothing for their symbolic values. Many such examples are present across cultures of particular florals being associated with the sun, chivalry, free spiritedness. The introduction of florals on clothing is bit sketchy, however, it does point towards a symbolic connection.

In 1800, at the turn of the 19th Century, Neoclassicism was the dominant style of painting in Europe. The artistic movement had developed in the 18th Century as part of a larger decorative style that encompassed architecture, sculpture and the decorative arts.

Floral prints are the must have print type that is definitely always on trend every season. That is why dignitaries always go for floral prints and patterns for their collections. There are a lot of floral print and pattern types in textile industry such as vintage floral patterns, tropical floral patterns, abstract and stylised floral patterns and so on…

As everybody knows each flower has its own meaning thanks to that as we mentioned above we can face a lot of different type of flowers in fashion.

Let’s discuss the floral print of 2000 in some detail.

2010 :

In 2010 we saw floral prints and patterns with mix and match style. designers used different prints and patterns together. On the other hand,if we go into the details Thakoon used abstract flowers, Versace used floral prints and patterns with patchwork technique, Christian Sirianoi, Carolina Herrera and many others gave importance to abstract floral prints and patterns at their collections.

2012 :

In 2012 floral prints and patterns were the biggest trend especially for the summer season. We saw floral prints and patterns with roses, orchids and dasies… Head to toe floral prints were the another key trend at that time.In 2012 Parabal Gurung also used floral prints and patterns but his choice was abstract flowers that inspired by Araki’s works. And the last but not leats we should talk about the Thakoon’s designs with floral prints. He used floral prints and patterns in an unexpected way and he inspired by Bollywood for that floral prints.

2014 :

That year were more bright than before. Timeless floral prints and patterns were playing leading role. In 2014 we can divide floral prints and patterns in 2 parts. One of them is soft, romantic and hand painted floral prints and patterns. The other one is bold, abstract and flat flowers. For the first part Hermes was the best example. On the other hand for the second part Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors can give an example.

2016 :

Abstract and realistic flowers. There were two main floral pattern types at that year.If we look at the Burberry’s show we can also see the asbtract floral pattern with psychodelic looks. During the 2016 we saw every type of flowers at the shows. For example, Victoria Beckham used Moroccan exotic flowers. For realistic flowers Michael Kors can be good example.

2018 :

Micro Floral Pattern’s turn. As everybody knows micro flowers are more feminen than other floral patterns. If you wonder who used that kind of floral prints and patterns we can give couple of example to you. Ulla Johnson and Brock Collection. They were really good at it. Let’s talk about the winter time of 2018. Floral prints and patterns were also popular at that time. But that fall designers emphasized on floral patterns with dark background. For example Saint Laurent .

2020 :

The floral prints are the most wondrous motifs, widely prevalent in recent times. These prints never fail to deliver an evergreen, and fresh look to one’s appearance, irrespective of the occasion.

2022 :

2022 is bringing back long cardigans, chunky cardigans, oversized sweaters, biker boots, mini pleated skirts (they were out of style for summer), slip dresses, plaid, baggy cargo jeans, oversized jackets.Butterfly hair clips and low-rise jeans of two decades past have struck again with a force unseen since the dawn of the 21st century.

Fashion is important because it reflects the culture of a country. It makes our life colourful and changes our life with time. In a way it also adds variety to life, providing an opportunity in trying out something new.
